Spirit Week 2023: Slimy Fish Toss

Day one of Spirit Week 2023 kicked off with the Slimy Fish Toss, where the juniors and seniors captured one win each between the two rounds.

Pairs of two students represented their grades in both the “A” and “B” divisions lobbing a vaseline-coated rubber shark to each other, each time with increased distance between them.

In Division A, juniors Matthew Schlotterbeck ’25 and Jaylen Miller ’25 captured the win defeating seniors Dhru Ponnamaneni ’24 and Matthew Chen ’24 in a very competitive battle. After winning Slimy Fish Toss, Miller said, “It feels great to win. My biggest key to success was throwing it over the line to give my partner a good chance to catch the fish.”

Ponnamaneni and Chen finished second, making it the second year in a row. Ponnamaneni stated, “It was really on me, I didn’t have the throw power to get it across the line, but Matt did a great job.”  The ninth graders came in third while the sophomores rounded out division A with fourth place.

In Division B, seniors Jonah Bierig ’24 and Ben Girgis ’24 dominated the competition, winning in the early rounds of the competition. Bierig stated, “It feels great to win; we stayed composed and did what we needed to do to get the win.”
