Class of 2021 Sweeps the First Day of Spirit Week

Spirit Week 2018 opened with a stunning upset from the sophomores, who won all three events.

The first event was Boys’ Slimy Fish Toss. The seniors and freshmen ducked out early, neither completing a full throw. The freshman (Cal Blumberg and Peter Tummarello) tied with the seniors (Kyle Eiffes and Ollie Frank). It was a twist for Kyle Eiffes and Ollie Frank, who tied for first place in Slimy Fish Toss last year against the class of 2018. There was some final contention between the sophomores (Harry Kelly and Nolan Schenk) and the juniors (Mark Johnson and Monit Patel), with the sophomores ultimately coming in first place.

Sophomore Harry Kelly said that the sophomores’ success was a surprise, but they had come to compete with a good mentality.

Next up was Girls’ Slimy Fish Toss. The freshmen (Nia Hipps and Skye Mada) came in last place after dropping the slimy fish on their second toss. Seniors (Meghan Roberts and Kayla Vidal) were out next. Again, the fight for first place was between sophomores (Olivia Rutherford and Maddie Bouggess) and juniors (Renna Mohsen-Breen and Bella Runyan). To secure first place for the sophomores once again, Maddie Bouggess caught the winning toss.

And last, but certainly not least was the Jello Eating competition. Three-time champion senior Jack Stern was dethroned by sophomore Chase Eni, with just seconds splitting first and second place. Junior Andrey Chernov finished third and freshman Caleb Kelly came in last place.

Senior Liam Schenk said of the day’s disappointments, “As a senior, I am not worried. Although today didn’t go as well as we hoped, there are still plenty of events for us to make up points. There is no reason for us get down on ourselves now.”
